PROGRAM Wednesday 18 September

Meeting at the Sunshine Hotel at 8.30 am and departure to Candidoni 

9:00 am – Visit to Paolillo Pasquale’s orchard in Candidoni.

The orchard was planted in 2021, by grafting an existing Hayward orchard with Dorì scions. The surface area is 5.000 m2 and a harvest of 180-200 quintals of kiwis is expected.

The peculiarities of this orchard are the proximity to the sea, and the sum of the chilling hours recorded in this area, amounting to just 50 hours in the current year.

10.15 am – Visit to the orchard of Albanese Angela, located in Taurianova.

We will visit 2 orchards.

The first one was carried out in 2017 by grafting an existing 2-hectares Hayward orchard with Dorì scions.

In 2019 the orchard suffered a PSA attack in one part of its - around 3 trial rows, the attack was caused by a treatment made to help vegetative awakening, which was unnecessary as Dorì needs a few chilling hours, as we could see on the previous visit.

Today the orchard is healthy and a harvest of 50,000 kg per hectare is expected.

The second plot we will visit is another 2-hectares surface, grafted with Dorì in 2021 on a Hayward orchard, showing an excellent vegetative response and a very appreciable quantity of fruit, considering that it is in its third year since grafting.

Next to it, we can see a 40-year-old Hayward orchard of 1.5 hectares, where Dorì grafts were made in 2023 and where we already find some fruit present this year.

1.30 pm – departure for Capua, and tour of Latina and Romagna

For those who wish it, in the afternoon it will be possible to visit a further orchard of 6000 m2 in the area of Laureana di Borrello -RC- which is located in the hilliest area at 300 meters above sea level.
